The Drums - “Best Friend

I know we’ve been posting a lot of great 90s songs recently, but I wanted to share my current obsession with all of you. How about we visit some music that takes its musical cues from the 80s, shall we?

The Drums are based out of Brooklyn and serve up a healthy dose of post-punk reverb a la Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, etc. Mixed in with all this fuzz are relatively minimal guitar strums and drum beats, which somehow gives each song some serious hooks that sound effortless without sounding tired.

It was pretty difficult for me to choose a track to post here. Runners up include “Lets Go Surfing,” “Skipping Town,” ”Book of Stories” and “Saddest Summer.”

I can see myself pleasantly zoning out to their self-titled release this fall.
